China Joins Fight Against Ebola

Chinese Foreign Ministry has announced plans to join the fight against the deadly Ebola Virus Disease in West Africa.

Tribune reports that the ministry’s spokesperson, Hong Lei, who made this known in Beijing on Wednesday, said the country promised to work with other international community in curtailing the disease in the region.

Lei, who further revealed that a 59-member Chinese laboratory team, with 30 doctors and 29 laboratory technicians on Tuesday left Beijing, said: “They will work at the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital to help Sierra Leone improve lab testing.”

According to him, this is the recent effort by China to help the fight against the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.

The spokesman also stated that China had earlier dispatched medical supplies and 115 medical experts to Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau.

It would be recalled that on September 14, 2014, in response to the unabated increase in number of deaths recorded so far from the EVD outbreak in West Africa, United States President, Barack Obama, hinted on  plans to boost his country’s involvement in the war against the deadly disease after it initially announced that it has already committed around $100 million to tackle the outbreak by providing protective equipment for healthcare workers, food, water, medical and hygiene equipment.

Hmmmm!!! Synagogue Did Not Allow To Us Save Lives — NEMA

 The National Emergency management Agency, NEMA has revealed that the Synagogue of Nations Church stopped them from doing their job.

This was revealed by the spokesperson of the agency, Ibrahim Familoye who talked to PREMIUM TIMES on last night.

The two storey building was being remodeled with extra three three floors being added.



The agency, FEMA indicated that many where dead and about 20 others injured.



NEMA said:“The church members attacked us,”. “First responders ran away for their own safety. I don’t know what they’re hiding, they said they are capable of handling the situation but they doing a shoddy job of it. People are still trapped in the rubble.

 



“If we were allowed to work we would have worked all night but the safety of the emergency responders comes first. If they can attack us in the day, there is no knowing what they would do at night.”

According to TheNation, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, Friday Adeboayo,  had revealed the number of dead to be around, adding that rescue operations to evacuate the injured persons would go on.

At the same time, Punch put the number of the deceased to 50.

We Have No Current Case of Ebola In Nigeria - Health Minister

The Nigerian ministry of Health has announced that the country currently has no active case of the deadly Ebola virus.

In a post by spokesman for the Minister of Health, Dan Nwomeh, he revealed that the nation has recorded 12 cured and 7 dead from the virus brought into the country by Liberian Patrick Sawyer.

He noted the case of the female student of OAU who is said to have allegedly contracted the deadly Ebola virus and had been admitted at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital OAUTH, Ile-Ife and said to have contact with PH doctor at a naming ceremony.

But news coming in states that she has tested negative to the deadly virus.

The Ebola virus is believed to have killed no fewer than seven peple in both Lagos and Port Harcourt since the late Patrick Sawyer brought the dreaded disease to Nigeria on 20 July, 2014.o

No fewer than 19 persons have been confirmed to have contracted the disease.

The World Health Organisation, WHO, estimates that over 2,296 have already died from the disease since it broke out early this year in West Africa.

Apart from Nigeria, other West African nations battling the Ebola virus are Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Senegal
