Photo: Police hunt man who killed siblings, hacked two in Edo state

unnamedThe Edo State police command has launched a manhunt for 50 year old Mike Okeze, for allegedly hacking two children to death and viciously attacking two others.

According to a report by Punch, Okeze stormed the home of his neighbour, Oliver Udeh, last Wednesday September 17th in Okha II community, off Old Sapele Road in the Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State, and attacked his children with a machete. He killed Udeh's two children, Destiny (3years) and Samson (6years). He then attacked two other children, Goodness (4years - pictured left) and Gift (8years - pictured right). He severed Goodness' arm and tore the nose of Gift. Continue...

According to the Edo state Police spokesman, Noble Uwoh, Okeze, who is currently on the run, attacked the children inside their home after he had a disagreement with their mother, Chinyere Udeh. He said Okeze immediately fled the scene but a manhunt has been launched by the state Police command
“The suspect murdered the two children in his neighbour’s apartment, following a misunderstanding between him and the Udehs. The man actually had a misunderstanding with the wife and the man went to her house and murdered a six-year-old boy and another three-year-old boy. The same suspect went ahead to inflict injuries on two other children of that woman who are currently undergoing treatment, while two corpses have been deposited in the mortuary. The injured ones are Gift Oliver, eight years, and Goodness Oliver, four years. The suspected killer fled the scene, but investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to locate and arrest the man. We have launched a manhunt for him.” he said

Speaking about the sad incident, Oliver Udeh, who hails from Enugu state, said Okeze was initially going to attack his wife, Chinyere, but when she ran to get help from Neighbors, he descended on their young children
“The man attacked four of my children with a cutlass. Two died, while the remaining two are at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. I have six children. My other two boys and my wife escaped from the man. The corpses of the two who died are at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin. It was my wife that he wanted to kill. But she ran away to call our neighbors. When they arrived at my house, he ran away into the bush and we have yet to find him. I didn’t have any problem with him. But my wife told me that he hated my children. So, when I traveled, he attacked my family with a cutlass and killed two of my children.

26-Year-Old Kills Self On Skype

A 26-year-old Russian man, Sergey Kirilov, has reportedly hanged himself live on Skype, while spectators cheered him on.

According to Dailymail report, Kirilov had announced his intentions to kill himself on social media, and invited people to watch him while he carried out the act live on Skype.

It was gathered that instead of attempting to stop Kirilov from taking his own life, many people watching Kirilov online encouraged him to kill himself.

[caption id="attachment_2645" align="aligncenter" width="600"]The late Sergey Kirilov The late Sergey Kirilov[/caption]

Police authorities investigating the case stated that only one person tried to stop the deseased.

“If a man says he’s going to do something, he needs to do it,” one of the spectators allegedly said, while another said: “Come on, are you ready yet? Go on – do it.”

Speaking on the incident, a police spokesperson said: “It is beyond belief that people could watch this as a form of entertainment. We will be investigating everyone who watched this incident, especially those who urged him to carry it out who may be guilty of negligent homicide.”

Meanwhile, Moscow police say they are now trying to trace all the people who watched Kirilov’s suicide through their internet service providers.

Why do you think the late Kirilov would have killed himself in this manner?

Don't Threaten Amaechi, APC Tells Jonathan

The All Progressives Congress, APC, South-south chapter, has announced that the party will do everything possible to stop the alleged threat to the by the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

This is according to Hilliard Etagbo Eta, the National Vice-Chairman of APC in South south zone, who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, 18 September, 2014.

Eta alleged that at the beginning of the altercation between Governor Amaechi and President Jonathan’s wife, Patience Jonathan, agents of the federal government had used the then state Police Commissioner, Joseph Mbu, to harass Amaechi and his political associates.

He added that Mbu few days ago bragged about how he was able to tame Amaechi when he was the police commissioner in state, claiming that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was fighting a lost battle against Amaechi.

READ ALSO:

Eta alleged further that the recent killing of Amechi’s uncle pointed to the fact that the sole aim of the killers was to get at the governor himself, adding that his opponents have been targeting people close to the governor for harassment and elimination.

The politician also condemned the handling of the gruesome murder of Chief Harry Marshall many years ago, adding that Marshall was before his sudden death, the National Vice Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

According to him, the murder should be addressed as the Australian negotiator, Stephen Davis, has given a clue about his death.

“This is an illustrious son of our country and I want the government to reopen the investigations into his death,” Eta said.

He questioned why the former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo, has not been invited to defend himself to the claim made by Davis that he knows about Marshall’s death.

READ ALSO: This Is What Amaechi Has To Say About Boko Haram

According to the APC zonal chieftain, the recent allegation made by Davis that Boko Haram’s sponsors are close to the government and the fact that President Jonathan has not done anything about the claim is a confirmation of the unwillingness of the PDP-led administration to put a stop to the growing insecurity in the country.

It would be recalled that former security Adviser to one time Rivers State governor, Peter Odili, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe few days ago said that Nyesom Wike is the main reason why President Goodluck Jonathan and governor Amaechi is engaged in a feud.

Sara-Igbe alleged thatWike pitted the President against Amaechi  in a bid to realise his own personal political growth.

How Nigerian Police, Military Torture And Kill Civilians

Torture has become a part of the police system in Nigeria and it is alarming how the authorities who are supposed to protect its citizens subject them to all kinds of torture.

A report published today, September 18, titled, “Welcome to hell fire: Torture and other ill-treatment in Nigeriahas detailed the how the police and the military in Nigeria routinely torture women, men, and children some as young as 12, using a wide range of methods such as beatings, shootings and rape, SaharaReporters reports.

The report which was compiled from hundreds of testimonies and evidence gathered over a period of 10 years by renowned international human rights organisation, Amnesty International also details how civilians are detained and tortured as a means to extort money or force a confession to solve cases which are under investigation.

[caption id="attachment_2542" align="aligncenter" width="500"]Footage showing graphic evidence of multiple war crimes being carried out in Nigeria Photo credit: Amnesty International Footage showing graphic evidence of multiple war crimes being carried out in Nigeria

Some of the torture techniques include nail or tooth extractions, choking, electric shocks and sexual violence.”

It was revealed how most people who are detained are denied access to the outside world, including lawyers, families and courts.

READ ALSO:

“Torture has become such an integral part of policing in Nigeria that many police stations have an informal ‘Officer in Charge of Torture’ or O/C Torture,” the report said.

Recounting her ordeal, a 24-year-old woman named Abosede said police abuse left her with a permanent injury.

She said: “A policewoman took me to a small room, told me to remove everything I was wearing. She spread my legs wide and fired tear gas into my vagina.

“I was asked to confess that I was an armed robber…I was bleeding…up till now I still feel pain in my womb.”

Amnesty International also reports that the Nigerian military is committing similar human rights violations, detaining thousands in their search for members of the Boko Haram Islamist sect.

Speaking about his experience, a 15-year-old boy from Yobe state identified as Mahmood, , who was arrested by soldiers with around 50 other people, mainly boys between 13 and 19 years old, said, he was detained for 3 weeks. In that 3-week period, the soldiers beat him repeatedly with their gun butts, batons and machetes, pouring melting plastic on his back, making him walk and roll over broken bottles, and forcing him to watch the extra-judicial execution of other detainees. He was eventually released in April 2013.

According to Amnesty International’s Research and Advocacy Director, Netsanet Belay, torture is not a criminal offence in Nigeria, though it is prohibited in the constitution but the country has yet to pass legislation outlawing the violation.

Baley spoke of 12-year-old boy who was arrested, beaten, forced to clean vomit with his bare hands and alcohol was even poured on him.

Torture happens on this scale partly because no one, including in the chain of command, is being held accountable. Nigeria needs a radical change of approach, to suspend all officers against whom there are credible allegations of torture, to thoroughly investigate those allegations and to ensure that suspected torturers are brought to justice.

“When internal investigations within the police or the military do take place, the findings are not made public and the recommendations rarely implemented. Of the hundreds of cases researched by Amnesty International, not one victim of torture or other ill-treatment was compensated or received other reparation from the Nigerian government,” he said.

He therefore called on the Nigerian government to act fast by passing a law which makes torture a criminal offence.

Baley said: “Our message to the Nigerian authorities today is clear, criminalize torture, end incommunicado detention and fully investigate allegations of abuse. That would mark an important first step towards ending this abhorrent practice. It’s high time the Nigerian authorities showed they can be taken seriously on this issue.”

About a month ago, that allegedly shows Nigerian soldiers slitting the throats of insurgents and dumping their bodies in a mass grave.

However, Nigerian Defence spokesman Major-General Chris Olukolade, said the scenes depicted in the video were alien to their operations and doctrines.

Amaechi’s Cousin Was Cut To Death With Machete

A cousin of governor Chibuike Amaechi, Sabinus Ordu, has been murdered in his home town, Ubima, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State, according to the Rivers Police Command.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Ibim Semenitari, who confirmed the incident to Premium Times in Port Harcourt on Friday, said Mr. Ordu was Amaechi’s uncle. However, he is a senior cousin because they share same grandfather.

According to Mrs. Semenitari, the mutilated body of Mr. Ordu, the vice principal of the Community Secondary School, ALUU, also in the local government, was found on Monday night.

On September 8, the deceased had gone to inspect his trap in the bush during which his assailant cut him with machete to death. It could not be ascertained immediately if the killing was politically motivated.

“Late Mr. Sabinus Ordu, who is an uncle (senior cousin) to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, returned home in the afternoon from CSS, ALUU, where he is the vice principal and told the boy staying with him that he was going into the bush to check his traps.”

“He then mounted his motorcycle and left for the bush but did not return until it was night. At about 8.00p.m, the boy raised an alarm which attracted the villagers. A search party was sent to look for him,” Mrs. Semenitari said.

Mrs. Semenitari added that on the way into the bush the search party saw the victim’s motorcycle by the bush path, and went into the bush where they found his lifeless body, mutilated with several machete cuts.

The commissioner said the matter has been reported to the Elele Police Division and that Mr. Ordu remains have been deposited in a private mortuary.“The matter has been reported to the Police at Elele while the body has been deposited at the morgue.”

“It is worrisome because Ordu was a peace loving man, a school principal and the entire Amaechi’s family has been thrown into deep mourning,’’ she said.

Police Nab 4 Accused Of Duping Couple Of N14.5m In Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command yesterday, paraded four members of a fraud syndicate which allegedly duped a couple of N14.5 million.

white-witches

The couple were told by the fraudsters to give them N20,000 to ward off the looming evil before them, but they ended up paying N14.5 million in three tranches before the fraudsters were arrested, according to report from Vanguard The suspects are Shehu Salam, 40; Risikat Oriyomi,47; Sola Babalola 38 and Wasiu Ajani, 35, who is physically challenged, were arrested on Monday in their den located at Omusorin village in Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The fifth suspect, who is said to be the ring leader, one Baba Awotola, fled when men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad stormed their operational base.

It was gathered that Ajani, a native of Ilorin, Kwara State, who claimed to be an Islamic cleric, got the couple into the net of the syndicate through the couple’s family friend.

The state Police Commissioner, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, who conducted newsmen round the fraudster’s shrine in a dilapidated house which doubled as their operational base, yesterday, said the syndicate used Ajani to lure the couple, who are rice merchants in Lagos State.

Ikemefuna said Ajani used the name of a late popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Bulala, to hoodwink the victims.

The commissioner explained that Ajani on the fateful day dressed in Islamic cassock and hung about nine different praying rosaries on his neck, accosted the couple around Owode Onirin, Lagos, and gave them a revelation of a looming trouble before them which must be warded off through one of special prayers.

He said: “The suspect also told them to buy a measure of salt and give it as alms to three beggars.

He later told the husband to buy a local egg and use it to pray, circling it around his head three times.”

According to him, Ajani later used the egg as a bait to lure the couple to their den, where they began to swindle them.

“He got the wife’s telephone number, and through it, he called the couple to bring the egg to their den for a special prayer,” Okoye said.

The couple, who pleaded anonymity because of their position in the society, said the syndicate under the pretence of warding off the evil before them collected N14.5 million in three instalments from them.

According to the couple, the syndicate used the two women, Risiqat and Sola as “white witches” who claimed to offer prayers to ward off evils.

The ‘witches’ who claimed to have descended from ‘heaven’ reportedly said they needed money to fly back.

Speaking with newsmen, Ajani said he got the information about the couple from the fleeing Baba Awotola.

He said: “It was Baba Awotola who introduced me to this shady business.

He asked me whether I want to die a wretched man. He was the one who gave the information that the couple had a problem and that they were a bit comfortable.

He promised me a car and N300,000, but he only gave me and Shehu N100,000 each.”

Ikemefuna warned residents to be wary of fraudsters who parade themselves as clerics.
