The religious Lady and the atheist

An elderly lady was well-known for her faith and for her boldness in talking about it.
She would stand on her front porch and shout “PRAISE THE LORD!”. Next door to her lived an atheist who would get so angry at her proclamations he would shout, “There ain’t no Lord!!”
Hard times set in on the elderly lady, and she prayed for GOD to send her some assistance. She stood on her porch and shouted “PRAISE THE LORD. GOD I NEED FOOD!! I AM HAVING A HARD TIME. PLEASE LORD, SEND ME
SOME PROVISIONS AND AND FOOD ITEMS!!”

The next morning the lady went out on her porch and found a large bag of provisions and food items, filled with joy she shouted, “PRAISE THE LORD.”
The neighbor jumped from behind a bush and said, “Aha! I told you there was no Lord. I bought those groceries and left them at your door step, God didn’t.”
The lady started jumping up and down and clapping her hands and said, “PRAISE THE LORD. He not only sent me
provisions, but He made the devil pay for them. Praise the Lord!”

Peacock son

An old man was sitting on a bench at the mall. A young man walked up to the bench and sat down. He had spiked
hair which he dyed in different colors: green, red, orange, blue, and yellow.

The old man just kept staring at him. Every time the young man looked, the old man was staring. The young man finally
said sarcastically, “What’s the matter old man, never done anything wild in your life?”
Without batting an eye, the old man replied, “I got drunk once and slept with a peacock. I was just wondering
if you were my son

The stranded Christians

Two Christians were stranded in the Sahara desert on their way to Libya.

One was called David and the other was called Christian. They were terribly dying of hunger and thirst when they suddenly came upon an oasis with what looked like an emirate with a mosque in the middle. David said to Christian “Let’s pretend to be Muslims otherwise we will not get food or drink. I am going to call myself Muhammad Gambo”
Christian refused to change his name “My name is Christian and I will not pretend to be what I am not”. Okay, don’t say I didn’t warn you, replied David.

When they got there, the Imam of the Mosque received both of them well and asked for their names. David
said “My name is Muhammad Gambo” while Christian said “My name is Christian”.

The Imam turned to the helpers of the Mosque and said “Please bring some food and water for Christian only.” Then he turned to the other and said “Well Muhammad Gambo, since you are a confirmed Muslim I’m sure you remember that we are still in the month of Ramadan and you can therefore not break your fast now?

Manchester United sign Di Maria For €75 million

The Red Devils have smashed their transfer record to lure the Argentine to Old Trafford, bringing their summer spend to in excess of €160 million as Louis van Gaal rebuilds

Manchester United have completed the signing of Real Madrid ace Angel Di Maria, who becomes the most expensive signing in Premier League history. The Argentina international, who can play across the frontline and in midfield, moves to Old Trafford in a deal worth €75 million and is now the fifth costliest player ever.

manchester-united-sign-di-maria-e75-million

The 26-year-old, who United hope can galvanise a squad that has picked up just a single point from their opening two league matches, has signed a five-year contract worth close to the £300,000-a-week earned by skipper Wayne Rooney.443723_heroaIncluding wages, add-ons, bonuses and signing-on fees, the total cost of the deal could rise to as much as €188m.

Di Maria completed his medical on Tuesday having arrived at Carrington with his entourage late in the morning, while his agent had several hours of sit-down talks with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward in the afternoon to thrash out the final details of the contract.

The 20-time English champions have been chasing Di Maria for several weeks and were given a free run at the Argentine when Paris Saint-Germain pulled out of the race for his signature.

He has been itching for a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu since the arrivals of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos shunted him down the Madrid pecking order, and was understood to be very keen on working with Louis van Gaal.

Di Maria played a key role for Los Blancos last season as they lifted the Champions League, while he recorded a division-high 17 assists in La Liga before finishing as a runner-up at the World Cup in Brazil.

The big-money deal takes United’s summer spending to in excess of €160m, meaning they have now spent more than any other club in the world this summer, eclipsing Barcelona’s €150m outlay.

They may not be finished there either, with a shaky and dysfunctional defence likely to be reinforced by the possible arrival of Ajax’s Daley Blind, while Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal remains a long-term target.manchester-united-sign-di-maria-e75-million3 manchester-united-sign-di-maria-e75-million1 manchester-united-sign-di-maria-e75-million2

5 Reasons Why We Love Jim Iyke

jimi

Jim Iyke (James Ikechukwu Esomugha) is a Nigerian actor and singer-songwriter. He is one of the highest paid Nollywood actors and has featured in

over 150 films.

1. Have you listened to Jim Iyke talk in movies? He sounds as if he makes his own lines and completely ignores his scripts. He is so intense! Lol, but I love it.

2. Pay attention to some of his infamous poses during interviews. Jim’s legs are always crossed on top of the other, as well as his fingers between each other a majority of the time when he is trying to make a point. As well, how dare I forget “the shades never come off”. I can’t tell you the last time I noticed eye contact during one of his interviews.

3. He has a show called ‘Jim Iyke Unscripted’ that “clearly” is partially scripted! How ironic?! It’s just not authentic enough. Even his ex-fiancee Keturah Hamilton said she had to act as a “crazy jealous lover” to draw attention for the show.

4. Jimmy released an album in 2010 titled ‘Who am I?’. Myself and many others couldn’t tell the head or tail behind the reasoning of this. In his first single also titled ‘Who am I?’ with TuFace, I couldn’t even identify his voice. Its funny how a lot of Nigerian actors branch from one extreme field to another in any kind of way. It unfortunately didn’t work out for him as planned.

5. We are all happy for his relationship with Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari. I just think its hilarious how couples give each other shoutouts on social media. He confirmed their relationship on Twitter with this comment “She calls me Skittles. I named her Space. D gift of laughter, companionship n trust is incomparable. BFF. Love is a f***ing beautiful thang!”.

Akpors’ 3 missed calls

Akpors and Ekaitte got tired of spending money on phone network providers and decided to come up with a different means of communication.

Akpors: This gsm people dey chop our money too much oh.
Ekaitte: Yes the stealing is too much
Akpors: I got an idea, instead of using phone, why don’t we use a pigeon in sending messages like the old time, just tie your
message to it’s leg if you want to reply
Ekaitte: I like what is in your head.
After an hour of waiting, Ekaitte saw the pigeon in the window, she checked it’s leg’s but nothing there, she sent it back, just a few minutes it comes back, she quickly grabs it but to her dissapointment no message again, she sent it back.
After some few minutes, she opened the window for the pigeon to come in, she checked it’s legs but still no message.
With too much anger, she headed to Akpors house and shouted “Akpors come here, you idiot, you said you will send message through this pigeon but why it has come to me three times without a message.
Akpors: Hahaha, Ekaitte, you don’t understand, that one is 3 missed calls na not message.

WEMA Bank To Bar Customers Over Ebola

Following the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in Nigeria, many banks have introduced new measures to curtail the spread of dreaded disease.

Investigation revealed that among the new preventive measures introduced by some of the Nigerian banks are self-dispensing hand sanitisers, and body temperature scanners at all their branches in the country.

Checks also revealed that some of the banks have introduced protective gears for members of its staffs especially those who deal directly with customers.

According to a notice to customers released by WEMA on Monday, 25 August, 2015, the bank said henceforth all customers and visitors to any branch of the bank would be required to use the hand sanitisers and be scanned for symptoms of fever before being admitted into their banking halls.

“In the wake of the recent Ebola Virus Disease outbreak across West Africa, we are compelled to introduce the following preventive health and safety initiatives at all our business locations in order to ensure a safe banking environment for all customers and staff,” the bank stated.AdxM3uFnEasb6C7yvgW1jBmz

“All customers and visitors are required to use the hand sanitisers and also undergo a quick non-invasive body temperature scan before being allowed into our banking halls and business locations.

“In addition, some of our staff at the more sensitive desks will also be required to wear some protective gears while interacting with customers and other visitors during this period”  the statement read.

However, Premium Times reports that the bank did not say if provisions will be made for customers who are denied access due to their body temperature or other health concerns.

A visit to some branches of Guaranty Trust Bank, GTB, also showed that the bank has started implementing new safety measure aimed at curtailing the spread of the Ebola virus.

At the GTB branch on Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos State, customers were scanned  for their body temperatures before being allowed into the banking halls by security guards.

Some of the bank workers at the branch were also seen wearing hand gloves and mouth coverings at the teller points.

However, the federal Ministry of Health said it was not informed of the move, considered by some as discriminatory.

A health campaign organization, Projekthope, said the new policy is discriminatory.

“We should all learn to do things right. The presence of Ebola symptoms does not necessarily mean transmission will take place,” said Steve Aborisade, who heads Ibadan-based Projekthope. “And even if we want to be hyper proactive it should be sensitive in ways that will not be discriminatory and which actually stops transmission which is our first purpose.”

However, a medical expert said the bank should go beyond screening and make adequate referral arrangements for customers who may be turned away due to their health.

“I don’t think we should see it in the light of a discriminatory policy, I think they are just trying to act on the side of caution,” said Osahon Enabulele, the immediate past president of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA.

“The end point should be to aid the referral of such an individual to the nearest health facility for appropriate treatment. And of course, I expect that they should have a medical unit in the bank to quickly evaluate clients that may have suspicious features to properly evaluate them and not just to turn them away,” Mr. Enabulele said.

It would be recalled that  since

According to the World Health Organisation, WHO, the Ebola virus has killed at least 1350 people and 2473 cases confirmed since the new outbreak started in February, 2014.

Apart from Nigeria, other West African countries affected by the Ebola outbreak are Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima has reacted to Boko Haram alleged declaration of an Islamic State in Gwoza area of the state.

The governor’s reaction was contained in a statement he personally wrote on Sunday night, in response to enquiry over the said declaration, a copy obtained by The Nation.

Shettima said he cannot comment on the authenticity of the recent video that was reportedly released by Boko Haram, noting that security experts will look into it.

“I also cannot disclose measures being adopted by security agencies on whatever development in Gwoza or any part of Borno State but I can assure the good people of Borno State and other members of the public that the State Government is actively in touch and supporting security agencies deployed in Borno State in the counter insurgency efforts and insha Allah, the combined efforts will not be in vain,” he said.

The governor also noted that they were studying the situation, assuring that appropriate measures are being put in place by the right authorities, and urge the residents to remain calm and resolute in their support for security operatives.

“The security agencies, I am sure, are in position to analyse the content of the said new video, compare with the facts on ground in Gwoza and brief the Nigerian public as they deem professionally appropriate bearing in mind the national interest and patriotism as well as the overall safety of citizens” he said.
He commended the members of the Nigerian and International media for their firm support for Borno people and its government since the beginning of insurgency in 2009.

“Even as those of us in the media work tirelessly to disseminate information in the discharge of important duties that aim to protect the fundamental rights of the public to know happenings within and around them, we must at this moment, more than ever before, do our jobs with patriotic support for our country and its security forces as well as our passion for humanity as against those that seek to send humanity into extinction,” Shettima said.

The governor expressed optimism that victory will never go the way ofthe terrorist group because they are against their fellow human beings and their rights to life.

It would be recalled that the dreaded terrorist group Boko Haram on August 24, 2014, released a video claiming they have taken over Gwoza town in Borno State, and that they have declared it an Islamic caliphate.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah, has said the army would soon launch a massive military offensive to end insurgency in the North-East, in a reaction to the attack on the Mobile Police Training School, Gwoza last week, which left 35 police officers missing.

57 Chibok schoolgirls who managed to escape from the captivity of the dreaded Boko Haram sect have reportedly gained admission into a school in the United States of America (USA).

The Centre for Promotion of Ethics, Values and National Integration (CENPEVNI) said it was able to secure the admission through its collaboration with other groups.

This was disclosed in Abuja by the executive director of the group, and project coordinator, Rehabilitation and Reintegration Outreach Mission (RROM), Dr Mercy Sokomba, at a one day Stakeholders Interactive Session on Effective Victim Support Strategies, Leadership reports.

She said: “The reality of this particular offer is if the girls are ready for another form of separation from their parents. However, we have initiated discussions with some leadership of the Chibok community and at some point will meet with them and the parents for consent.”

She said offers for completion of education of the girls, inclusive of scholarship, have been made to RROM through Stefanos Foundation and the international support groups of RROM while adding that they hope the funds and support partnership will consistently get to RROM for project sustainability within scheduled time frame so as not to hinder the progress the outreach mission has made so far.

She prayed for the safe return of the abducted Chibok girls and many other women and children abducted earlier or after the Chibok girls.

Sokomba who commended the Federal Government in the fight against insurgency, pleaded for a quick resolution of the Boko Haram saga, saying: “The end of terrorism will bring an end to the loss of lives and properties.”

It’s been over four months since over 200 girls were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents from their school in Chibok, Borno state and all the attempts to rescue the girls from their abductors is yet to yield positive result.

After their abduction on April 14, some of them were said to have escaped and have since been re-united with their families, but a large a number of the girls are still being held the abductors.

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that the parents of the missing girls want the case closed and all they want is the corpses of their daughters so they could bury them honourably.

Japan Offers Ebola Drug

download (10)Japan could allegedly provide the self-developed unapproved drug to help treat Ebola.

Reuters reports with reference to Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, who briefed journalists at a recent press conference held August 25, said Japan was ready to cooperate with the World Health Organization (WHO) by offering their solution.

“I am informed that medical professionals could make a request for T-705 in an emergency even before a decision by the WHO. In that case, we would like to respond under certain criteria.”

T-705 is the developmental code for the influenza drug favipiravir. The developers, a subsidiary of Fujifilm Holdings Corp., and the U.S. partner MediVector are currently negotiating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the permission to to expand the use of favipiravir to fight Ebola.

Fujifilm spokesman Takao Aoki, explaining the mechanism of drug use, said Ebola and Influenza are same-type viruses adding that theoretically similar effects can be expected on Ebola, ABC News reports. According to the official, the effectiveness of T-705 was confirmed in experiments on mice. The company representative stated that it has favipiravir stock for more than twenty thousand patients.

Meanwhile the figure of people who died from Ebola outbreak in West Africa is gradually approaching 1500.

By the moment there is the only cure associated with treating the deadly virus, and it is a U.S.-developed experimental drug Zmapp which is believed to have saved the lives of 2 Americans infected in Liberia.

Ebola Started With A Toddler — Research

The research has showed that the ongoing epidemic of Ebola started with a chance contact of a toddler with a bat.

According to The Guardian, the group of international scientists came to such a conclusion after having conducted the major investigation regarding the origin of the virus, which has claimed nearly 1500 of lives in West Africa.

Related: How People Are Surviving Ebola Virus

The team consisting of researchers, ecologists and anthropologists had worked on tracing the roots of the disease, speaking with people and capturing bats and other animals near the village of Meliandoua, Guinea, where the outbreak is believed to have started last December and later spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

Related: Health Minister Reveals Two New Ebola Cases

The research results suggested that Ebola was passed from colony to colony of migratory fruit bats until it reached Guinea. Daily Mail adds that the 2-year-boy was bitten by the bat and passed the infection to his mother, both died within a 1-week period. While scientists believe that bats are main carriers of the virus, it is stated that its rare for them to directly transmit the disease to a human as the previous epidemics were caused by meat of the infected animals sold by hunters.
Nigeria got affected by the deadly virus as the Liberian-American man Patrick Sawyer, who traveled to the country, got admitted to a Lagos hospital where he died last month.

Meanwhile Ebola keeps claiming new lives in Nigeria: another nurse, Obi Justina Ejelonu, who attended to Patrick Sawyer died about a week ago in a quarantine facility in Lagos. However it was made known August 23 that her fiance Dennis previously hospitalized with the symptoms similar to those ones of Ebola disease, was discharged from Ebola Isolation Centre as not being infected.

I Will Return To Office- Nyako

download (9)Murtala Nyako, the former Governor of Adamawa State has expressed optimism that he will return to office as the state governor because the lawmakers didn’t follow the laid down procedure in removing him.

The ousted governor made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by his media adviser, Mr. Sajoh Ahmed, a copy obtained by Vanguard.

The former governor, who had alreadyfiled an appeal at the Appeal Court challenging his removal, said there were justifiable reasons to prove that he was unjustly impeached from office by his opponents, who breached the constitutional rules to achieve their aim.

Nyako expressed hope that the court would return him to office because the process leading to his forceful and undemocratic impeachment was illegal.

According to him, the Nigerian judiciary, which is made up of men of integrity and honour, would not find it difficult to restore him to his seat based on evidence that his opponents breached all the provisions of the law to remove him from office due to political reasons.

Nyako further noted that he was optimistic because the judiciary had in the past reversed the removal of governors Joshua Dariye of Plateau, Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo and Peter Obi of Anambra, hence it won’t be difficult for him to be restored as well since he was forced out of office by desperate people.

Nyako, however, advised his supporters to accept the current reality and prepare for the October 15 by-election, which he said would be a repeat of the scenario in Anambra State when Andy Uba emerged the governor after winning an election, but later vacate the seat after 16 days following the court decision which returned Peter Obi.
Meanwhile, it’s been forty days since Nyako was removed from office. It would be recalled that Nyako was impeached from office by the state lawmakers after he was found guilty of corruption charges. The former governor was to be probed over N82billion debt profile by the Government as reported on July 28, 2014. His removal from office also led to mass defection from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

2014 U-20 Women's World Cup: Germany Win, Beat Falconets

This match was a repeat of 2010 FIFA U-20 Final, and was a real clash of styles and football cultures.

Nigeria showed superior physical shape. The biggest disappointment was the top scorer of the tournament Asisat Oshoala. The in-form striker, who had scored four times in the 1/2-final win over Korea DPR, missed at least two golden opportunities in the first half.
In the next 45 minutes the teams continued to exchange blows. Germany played well and also wasted several good chances.

About five minutes remaining in the match the Falconets scored a goal and were about to start celebrations. Unfortunately, the assistant referee’s flag indicated that the goal was scored from an offside. This was not the only disallowed goal during the match.

The match went to 15+15 extra time. The German team did not wait for long, scored the title-winning goal on the 98th minute. There was a fault by Nigeria’s defence.
