A student of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Vivian Iwuji and her boyfriend, Obinna Ugochukwu have been arrested by the Imo state police for selling their new born baby boy for the sum of 620000 naira

Vivian who gave birth to a baby boy on August 2, 2014 decided with her boyfriend to sell their baby to a buyer, one Ehegalara Edwin who was also arrested by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Imo State Police Command, Owerri.

Luckily, the neew born baby boy was rescued from the buyer.

Ebola: FG Procures Patrol Vehicles at Borders to Prevent Spread of Virus

EBOLA-ABUJA

Sokoto (NAN) – The Minister of State for Health, Khaliru Alhassan, on Saturday said the Federal Government had procured vehicles for effective patrol of the nation’s borders to prevent further spread of Ebola virus.

Alhassan announced this at a news conference in Sokoto on government’s efforts to contain the spread of Ebola virus.

The minister said “we are collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Interior and all its agencies in this direction.

“This is with the view to adequately man the nation’s porous borders and not to take any chances’’, he added.

Alhassan said government had formed a specialized rapid response team to totally deal with the menace.

He said the team comprised doctors, medical laboratory scientists and other medical professionals.

The minister added that the team also included medical experts from the centers for disease control from (Atlanta) USA, Geneva, Medicins Sans Frontiers and other Nigerian health professionals.

“Nigeria is not yet out of the woods, but the federal government is fully prepared to contain the problem.

“The major challenge is getting the understanding of Nigerians, especially those under quarantine’’, he added.

Alhassan said 13 cases of the Ebola disease were confirmed, including the importer of the disease, Liberian Patrick Sawyer.

According to him, seven persons have been discharged, while six, including Sawyer, died of the Ebola virus.

“Over 400 persons are still under watch, while one case is outstanding in Lagos, with two isolation centers in operation in Lagos and Port Harcourt’’, he explained.

On doctors’ residency program, the minister said government had not sacked any resident doctor.

“The federal government only stopped the residency program because they went on strike.

“The program is intact but government will review it and assess the situation with a view to making it more vibrant’’, Alhassan added.

Photos: Child labour - Young girl made to wash truck everyday

5
Child abuse is not only when you hit a child, giving them hard labour is also part of child abuse. And I consider asking a young girl to wash a truck this big every day as hard labour.

According to an eye witness, one of her neighbours makes a young girl who lives with them who she says is between 12-15 years, to wash their truck either at night or in the morning...every single day. She says passersby only watch and complain but nobody has done anything about it. They believe her life is at risk because she tries to manage her space as other vehicles pass. This is happening at Kings Avenue, Ben Mill Road, Ogodu Berger, in case the authorities want to look into it.

Or are there people who think this is OK? See more photos after the cut...

[WHAT] Nigerian Graduates Are “Frustrated & Hopeless”

Hope Aiyo, a self-described “jobless Nigerian graduate,” penned an article entitled The Cry of a Frustrated Graduate. The article focuses on the problems of Nigerian youths and the reluctance of Nigerian government agencies to address the multiple issues.

I would like to reach out to the concerned government agencies to inform them of the problems that Nigerian graduates have to face every day. I want to believe that this write-up will reach the concerned people in power. And maybe, after reading this, they will take actions.

It pains me to see how most of the multinational organizations hide under the umbrella of outsourcing agencies. Thus, they are able to extort the strength of the helpless and hungry Nigerian graduates. They do this while smiling to the bank with billions. The majority of these organizations, however, claim they are youth-friendly. Despite these claims, young Nigerian graduates are dying of joblessness.

Therefore, I think the Nigerian Labour law needs to be reviewed. Relevant agencies must understand that Nigerian graduates have the right to work in their own country.

I am urging Chief Emeka Ngozi Wogu, Nigerian Federal Minister of Labour and Productivity, to address these issues, together with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria.

The normal system of education in Nigeria is 6-3-3-4. Couple this with the usual hardships associated with the university environment. Having all this in mind, I have trouble imagining a Nigerian graduate who, after all of this, settles for an outsourced sales job for N25,000 in a company that declares more than N20 billion in dividends at the end of the year.

Nigeria is blessed with decent energetic youths ready to give their last strength for the progress of this country.

I am calling on the Nigerian youths, the Nigerian graduates. All hands must be on deck to have a country we can call our own.

President Goodluck Jonathan, Sir, please listen to our cry. Honourable Minister of Labour, Mr. Wogu, we are begging!

Why do you think Nigerian graduates face so many problems with empoyment? Is there a solution to the issue?

5yr Old Girl Sustains Horrific Injuries after Being Allegedly Attacked in School (Photos)

5 year old AvaLynn was nearly disfigured when she was allegedly attacked by another pupil at her Elementary school in Mississippi this week. The most bizarre thing about this story is that the school is maintaining that she was not attacked, rather she got the horrific injuries in an accident while playing on the playground. Makes no sense. This looks more like a vicious attack to me.

2-21

Her mother and other relatives have opened a Facebook page for the young girl to tell what happened to her and share photos of her injuries, while seeking for justice. Below is what they wrote on the Facebook page about the incident…

“On Tuesday, August 26, 2014, Lacey Harris was called go come pick up her daughter at Arlington Elementary School in Pascagoula, Mississippi, because AvaLynn had been injured in an accident. The sight Lacey found when she got to Ava’s school was a parents’ nightmare: her face swollen, cut, and bruised beyond recognition.” Continue…

Lacey rushed Ava to the family pediatrician, who burst into tears upon seeing the Ava’s battered visage. Fortunately, the doctor determined that it is unlikely that Ava would have any permanent physical damage. Mental and emotional damage is another story altogether.

AvaLynn informed Lacey that she was assaulted by another student: that she was kicked repeatedly in the face until she fell off of the slide on the school’s playground. The school informed Lacey were no teachers present when the incident occurred, and because of that, no one could prove whether or not another student had harmed Ava.

After days of Lacey, friends, and family members reaching out to local news stations and to Facebook and other social media bodies, the school finally released a statement: AvaLynn was injured as the result of an accident, one that involved no other children. Although a police report was filed, Pascagoula Police Department states that they are not investigating the situation.

The school basically claims that Ava injured herself, as all the photos depicting her injuries will debunk. The local PD claims that there has been no criminal act, which the injury photos also disprove.

So now we’ve taken this to Facebook, asking everyone out there to please share this page, to please share AvaLynn’s story. We need this to reach as many people as possible so that this little girl will not go without justice. Please share this with your friends, your relatives, and all your local news outlets. Please help us get the answers and the justice that our little angel des

The Pascagoula School District issued the following statement about the incident:

“A student was injured while playing on the playground at Arlington Elementary School Tuesday afternoon. School officials responded to the situation. The parent was contacted and the student received medical treatment. No other children were involved in the incident. The Pascagoula School District remains committed to the safety of all its students.”

The mother of the girl, Lacey Harris (pictured above with AvaLynn), wrote on Friday night:

“As much as my heart is broken for my daughter, I am also amazed by the outpouring of love and support from our family, friends, Oasis church family and our community. Thank you so much for your concern, kind words, prayers, thoughts, shares, and donation. We ask that you continue these kind gestures.”

Shocking New Details Emerge in Port Harcourt Ebola Case | Over 200 people are now in quarantine in PH

ebola-1

On Thursday 28th August 2014, Just hours after the Nigerian Minister of Health declared Nigeria’s Ebola outbreak to be contained, as reported on BN, news emerged of a new case in Port Harcourt.

When the news broke, details were scarce and rumours were rampant on who, how and why Ebola spread to Port Harcourt.

In a news briefing on Friday 29th August 2014, the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samson Parker revealed key details on the case.

See below

The Name of the Ebola victim in Port Harcourt
Dr. Samuel Enemou

The Name of the Nigerian Diplomat who infected the victim
Koye Olu-Ibukun

On if Koye Olu-Ibukun was aware he had Ebola
Yes

On if the Doctor/Ebola Victim was aware he was treating an Ebola patient
Yes

How Koye Olu-Ibukun escaped quarantine and got to Port Harcourt
To conceal his movement, Koye, who had been quarantined among other people for having primary contact with the late Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American who is Nigeria’s index Ebola case, snuck out of the isolation unit where he was being observed and took a flight to Port Harcourt and switched off his phone so that he could not be reached or traced should he answer a call.

He survived the Ebola virus

On the protective measures taken by the Doctor
According to the commissioner, “From what we have gathered so far, Dr. Enemuo, knowing that Koye was positive of the Ebola virus took some measures of precaution to protect himself while treating Koye. Knowing the enormity of what he was doing, Enemuo upon Koye’s departure for Lagos, poured bleach all over the room that Koye slept in order to sanitise the place.

The Doctor develops Symptoms…
Dr. Samuel Enemou developed symptoms of Ebola and approached a colleague for treatment at the Good Heart Hospital

Patrick-SawyerHe concealed his status
Dr. Samuel Enemou did not disclose his suspected Ebola diagnosis. Instead “He lied. He did not tell the doctor that was treating him his full story. But the doctor, a nice and conscientious professional, suspected that Enemuo was either hiding something or was suffering from a strange ailment because he proved negative to malaria, fever and typhoid fever. To be sure of what he was doing, he spoke to other very experienced doctors about the strange case he was handling in his hospital.”

At that point, the news of Ebola was in the headlines and the invited doctors declined the invitation to monitor the case. Dr Enemou’s condition deteriorated and he died. His wife who is currently displaying symptoms is now under quarantine and observation in Lagos. The couple also have a 3 month old baby.

This illustrates how fear and lack of professional ethics has helped the spread of Ebola. If you suspect you have Ebola, please contact the Ebola helpline in your state immediately!

I Don’t Flaunt My Wealth But There Is Nothing I Need That I Can’t Afford – Reminisce

Reminisces famous fence1 I Don’t Flaunt My Wealth But There Is Nothing I Need That I Can’t Afford Reminisce

Indigenous rapper, Remilekun Shafaru popularly known as Reminisce speaks with JAYNE AUGOYE about his journey to fame

Indigenous rap, no doubt, is one of the most preferred music genres in Nigeria today and Remilekun Shafaru, better known as Reminisce, is one of the poster boys, alongside the likes of Olamide and Phyno, leading a thriving campaign to spread it across the globe.

Famous for his versatility and the street appeal of his songs, Reminisce was the only rapper from Africa mentioned in TIME Magazine’s recent ‘One of the seven world rappers you should meet’ list.

He earned this recognition a few months after he had dropped his second album titled, Alaga Ibile. Many music fans, who had always known him as a very reserved and under-celebrated rap artiste in the country, were practically speechless with surprise when the news was broken.

Even Reminisce himself learnt of this single honour while travelling to neighbouring Ghana by air.

He tells E-Punch, “I got to know about the listing by TIME magazine on my way to Ghana. I didn’t influence it. I only saw a statement posted on Twitter by the chief executive of Chocolate City, Audu Maikori.

I didn’t pay much attention to it and all the while, I wondered what business I had with the magazine. By the time my plane landed in Ghana, the congratulatory messages began to pour in. I don’t even follow those who sent them on Twitter. But, being the only African listed by Time Magazine is something else.”

For the light-skinned rapper, the road to stardom was fraught with challenges.

At one point, he was forced to leave home because his father wanted him to become a medical doctor.

Recounting his humble beginning and how frustration almost drove him to quit music, the 31-year-old Samsung brand Ambassador says, “It’s true that I almost quit music four months before my fortune improved. I became a star around late 2011, after I released Kako Bi Chicken.

The video of that song was released around the period that Nigerians were protesting against the removal of fuel subsidy. I had just become a father at that time and I realized that I couldn’t continue the same way.
“I almost quit music because I wasn’t making any money. You know, money controls the industry today, unlike the past when talent did.”

Reminisce owes his versatility in Yoruba to his father’s insistence that he must learn to speak the language. Often pitched against Olamide, the artiste, who studied Purchasing and Supply at the Kwara State Polytechnic, simply regards the latter as his ‘partner in progress.’

Olamide and I have always complemented and supported each other’s career. We don’t see each other as rivals. We have been able to change the image of indigenous rappers and as sensible people, the only thing to do is to support each other and improve the genre. Only the fans can tell who is a better rapper. At the end of the day, the issue is not about who is better, but who is successful.”

The artiste, who once hawked second-hand clothes and shoes at the popular Yaba Market, Said
“I wrote the hit song, Don’t Touch my Body for late Goldie and was never credited. But, it is okay. There are many songs you write and don’t get credited for. I don’t really care about such things, neither do I like to complain or bear grudges. I don’t really want to reveal or speak about others.”

Reacting to the display of wealth by some of his colleagues on social media, he says, “I am a very reserved artiste. I am able to differentiate between Reminisce the artiste and Remi the family man. That is why I don’t promote luxury.
There is nothing I need that I can’t afford, but I am not going to show off on social media. When artistes do such a thing, they appear superficial and unapproachable to their fans. Instead, I simply invest in people.”

Reminisce notes that loyalty is one virtue that is absent in the global entertainment scene.

“One reason why I don’t have friends is because nobody is willing to see you take their spot. The moment you become a star, a lot of people will be unhappy. But they will smile with you,” he says.

Although the rapper, who was discovered alongside Jahbless, 9ice, Lord Of Ajasa and Olamide by ID Cabasa, was blessed with a second child early in the week, he appears to be in no hurry to walk down the aisle.

“Yes, we live together. But we have issues with commitment. I think we are not ready for marriage yet. We will formalize things when the right time comes. I am still planning my future because I am not going to be a musician forever. I will quit music, maybe after a decade. I hope to also study Political Science overseas because I want to go into politics (House of Representatives) at some point as well,” he notes.

Akpors and the strippers

Akpors’ wife decided to give him a special treat by taking him to a strip club for his birthday. At the club the doorman said “Hi Akpors my guy, how are you?”
The surprised wife looked at Akpors suspiciously and asked “how on earth does he know your name? Have you been here before? ” Akpors said, “Oh no my dear, I play football with him.” When they got into the club the Barman shook Akpors’ hand and said “Akpors my guy, should I get you the usual?” Akpors quickly turned to his Wife and said “look dear, before you say anything, he’s the son of our football coach.” Just a minute later a stripper rushed up to Akpors, gave him a big hug and said “hello Akpors, do you want the special treatment today again?” By this time the wife decided she had heard enough and storms out dragging Akpors with her and jumps into a taxi still fuming with anger; before she could say where she wanted him to take them to the taxi driver turned and said, “Oga Akporssssss, this one wey you carry today worwor oh, shey na the normal hotel u wan go?”

Akpors is still under intensive care in the hospital due to the injury inflicted on him by his wife.

The Husbands

A group of men gathered at a church conference on how to live in a loving relationship with their wives. The men were

Then they were asked, “When was the last time you told your wife you love her ?” Some men answered today, some yesterday, majority didn’t remember. The men were then told to take their cell phones and send the following text to their respective wives: I love you, sweetheart.
Then the men were told to exchange their phones so one can read the other wife’s reply to the love message.
Here are some of the replies:
1. Have you impregnated someone again?
2. That was then, not now.
3. You wan borrow money abi?
4. What did you do again? I won’t forgive you this time.

After much thinking he smiled and wrote his answer as fast as he could: Warehouse is at Ojota while Shop is at
Alaba market. Then he submitted his paper and went to meet his Oga at the gate.

Oga Akpors: John, how far? How e be?

John: E dey so simple Oga. Question number three say make we differentiate between a warehouse & a shop.

Akpors is not so dumb

Akpors enters a barber shop. The barber whispers to his customer:
BARBER: This is the dumbest boy in the world. Watch while I prove it to you.
The barber puts a N50 note in one hand and two N10 notes in the other, then calls Akpors and says:
BARBER: Which do you want, boy?
Akpos takes the two N10 notes and leaves.
The barber turned to his customer and said, you see, I told you he is really dumb.

CUSTOMER: Well I’m guessing he is just a little confused now, he can’t make that mistake twice.

BARBER: I really doubt it, just wait and I’ll prove it to you again. (The barber calls Akpors back into the store one more time and offers him the same deal, once again to the surprise of the customer, Akpors picked the 2 N10 notes instead of the N50 note).

BARBER: What did I tell you? Akpos never learns!

Minutes later, when the customer left, he sees Akpors coming out of the ice cream store.
CUSTOMER: Akpors, May I ask you a question? You are obviously old enough to know that 2 N10 notes make up N20 which is less than N50, why do you keep  picking the N10 notes instead?

Akpors smiles and says: That barber is always so eager to prove to customers that I am dumb that everyday I get money for ice-cream from his little game. The day I take the fifty naira note, the game will definitely be over, so it’s better I act stupid and collect N20 everyday.

Remember this natural cooler?
