The Battle gets Tougher as the Leonard & Maisamari Families get Evicted from Maltina Dance All Academy’s 1st Round

The picture is gradually becoming clearer and the dance battle for the 10 Million Naira grand prize getting more intense as the Maltina Dance All 8 academy makes steady progress. The Leonard and Maisamari families could not stand the twist, turns, frills and intensity of the show as they became the first two families to be evicted from the show.



The two were evicted from the show after performing the “WaZoBia” (Nigeria’s indigenous dance) and “Jive” dance routines. They got the judges sledge hammer because of their inability to creatively satisfy them with their performances.

The first eviction showdown had four families locking horns to remain in the Academy. The Dide and Leonard families had earlier been placed on possible eviction list after their “WaZoBia” performance, while the Oladapo and Maisamari families could not impress the judges after the “Jive” performance. After what the judges’ trio of Muyiwa Osinaike, Comfort Fedoke and Jeffery Page described as an unsatisfactory performance at the various performance shows, they were given an order to redeem their image and justify their stay in the academy.

The Oladapo Family set the tone for the “WaZoBia” performance at the eviction night with “Nkpokiti” dance from Eastern Nigeria; the Maisamari and Leonard families rocked with “Owigiri/ Agene” and the Dide family nailed it with the “Bata” dance from the South West.

Muyiwa Osinaike said most of the families who have participated at the eviction show down from the past till present always come back to the stage with so much vibrancy and determination; he thus commended them for their “WaZoBia” performance.

The “Jive” performance, which turned out to be a night of emotion, opened with an energetic display by Dide family with a song titled “This head I Hold“. They left the floor for the Leonard Family with “One way or Another“. The Maisamari’s hit the stage with “Living La vida Loca” while the Oladapo’s closed the night performance with “Don’t Stop Me Now“.

When it was time for the judges to announce the families that would be evicted, the tension in the atmosphere was quite palpable as they found it challenging determining the two families that would leave the academy. One of the judges Comfort Fedoke, a professional dancer said the “Jive” performance described the family performance as an improvement from the initial show.

After the high powered judges deliberations, they collectively reached the conclusion that the Leonard and Maisamari families did not prove that they could make it to the next phase of the competition, this earned them their evictions.

Jeffery Page, one of the judges, disclosed the families lacked the basic elements of “WaZoBia” and “Jive” and that their performances was a comedy of error because he did not feel the power and technique needed for them to perfect the routines.

This notwithstanding, the evicted family representatives commended Maltinafor the opportunity granted them to display their inbuilt talent and learn new dance styles. They promised to keep working on what they had learned from the judges’ corrections and improve on the dance routines outside the academy.

Apart from the 10 Million Naira grand prize, the first and second runners-up in the competition will take home 3 Million and 1 Million Naira respectively.

The show, which hit the airwaves on Sunday 7th September 2014, is being shown on AIT (7PM – 8pPM daily); Silverbird TV (9PM – 10PM) and Ebony Live TV (7PM) Weekdays and (8:30PM) Weekend. John Travolta addresses ex-pilot gay sex claims for the first time

Earlier this year, a former employee of Hollywood actor John Travolta, Douglas Gotterba, claimed the two had been in a sexual relationship when he worked for Travolta's aviation company during the 80s.

South African Govt. say 67 of it’s Citizens Died in Synagogue Building Collapse

South African president, Jacob Zuma announced today that 67 of its citizens died in the Synagogue building collapse that occurred on September 12th.

I am greatly saddened to announce that 67 South Africans died and scores of others sustained injuries, after a building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations collapsed on Friday, 12 September 2014, in Lagos, in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This is a particularly difficult time for South Africa. Not in the recent history of our country have we had this large number of our people die in one incident outside the country. Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues that have lost their loved ones in this heart-breaking tragedy. The whole nation shares the pain of the mothers, fathers, daughters and sons who have lost their loved ones. We are all in grief. As we mourn this sudden and tragic death of our fellow compatriots, I have directed the relevant Government departments and entities to act with the utmost urgency to ensure that we facilitate the movement of relevant family members to Nigeria to identify the bodies of their loved ones and to ensure that we repatriate the remains as soon as possible under the circumstances.

Zimbabwe’s First Lady Awarded PhD 2 Months After Enrollment at University

Grace Mugabe, the wife of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, has reportedly been awarded a PhD in Sociology just two months after enrolling at University of Zimbabwe.

Robert Mugabe happens to be the chancellor of the school, International Business Times reports.

For her thesis, the first lady carried out a study of children’s homes in Zimbabwe.

Many are questioning the plausibility of someone earning a PhD in just eight weeks.

“A doctorate involves writing a thesis, after having a research question prepared, writing a proposal and then writing the thesis where one needs to research it, critique it then it can be marked, but that could take a few years,” said Greg Linnington, a lecturer at the university.

Another university administrator expressed bewilderment at the awarding of the PhD, stating that one would need a good Master’s degree before enrolling for a doctorate program.

The first lady reportedly obtained her first degree in Chinese Language in 2011.

Zimbabweans are expressing outrage about the issue.

Synagogue Church Building Collapse: 45 Year Old Woman Walks out of Rubble Alive Death Toll At Synagogue Church Hits 59

Reports just coming in inform that the number of dead bodies so far recovered from the debris of the collapsed six-storey building at Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, in Ikotun area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria have hit 57.

According to a report published by P.M.NEWS on Tuesday, 16 September, 2014, rescue workers recovered eight dead bodies on Monday night while two more bodies were pulled out of the debris Tuesday morning, the fourth day since the collapse happened.

It was also gathered that a 45-year old woman was rescued alive from the site of the building that collapsed last Friday, 12 September, 2014.

According to reports, the woman was said to have walked out of the collapsed building Tuesday morning hale and hearty, after spending three days under the rubble.

Meanwhile, rescue teams at the scene of the building collapse include men of  the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Rapid Response Squad and Lagos State Fire Service.

While speaking with newsmen Tuesday morning, spokesperson of NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye said: “The total number of death so far has risen to 57 while those rescued alive are now 131 as the rescue operation continues.

“A woman of about 45 years old walked out of the debris on her own around 2.00am today (Tuesday) and 10 more bodies  have been recovered.”

He added that more dead bodies were likely to be recovered, saying: “We are deploying the police sniffer dogs to assist in locating trapped victims as we are getting close to the area suspected to have more people trapped. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police has ordered the  release of the dogs.”

Farinloye stated that the dogs would assist in the search-and-rescue and also in early conclusion of their operations.

A visit to the scene where the building collapse scene on Tuesday morning revealed rescue teams were busy breaking the rubble to bring out the corpses of the victims still trapped there.

It would be recalled that officials of the Lagos State Government have said the collapsed building was not approved.

Also on Sunday, NEMA officials stated that authorities at the Synagogue Church are not allowing to do their job.

According to a statement released by the emergency agency, some church members of the Synagogue attacked some of their workers which resulted into many of  the first responders to run away for their own safety.

The governor said the Colleges of Education in Ekiadolor, has been upgraded to a degree awarding institutions- University of Education in order to cede people the opportunity of taking a teaching job. He said Igueben College has also been converted to a campus of the University of Education.

Oshiomhole promised the people of Igueben that in the next two and a half years of his administration, more transformation would be recorded and the future of the state would been completely replaced with politics of educating the people and not that of “wuru wuru”.

“I have not spent eight years only six and by the time I have spent eight years I would do more. So don’t listen to them when they tell you to decamp to a torn umbrella that has failed to produce any meaningful development in years. Did the umbrella build schools, roads and water? So ask before you act,” he said.

The comrade governor, who further urged the people to help rescue the country, assured them that he would not play politics of individual but politics of development. He said he would not listen to calls of individualism, and pointed out that Nigeria is failing because most of its leaders put themselves first before their people.

“You must understand the basis for political contestations. The times are gone when people would vote without asking questions. The times are gone when the welfare of the few is seen as the basis for the decision of the majority. It would be recalled that on September 9, 2014, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, declared that it would prevail on Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Adams Oshiomhole to support the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid in 2015.

Speaking on Tuesday with the Nation reporter at his Abuja residence, the former vice-president stated that asking him not to run for the country’s number one seat is like telling him to give up on Nigeria.

The former vice-president described those soliciting for automatic tickets in the 2015 presidential race were scared of contesting in the primaries.

"Arguments Against Voting In 2015 Elections"

2015 general and presidential elections are approaching fast. Some Nigerians have already decided who they will be voting for, while some are not yet sure whom to support. At first sight, everyone is excited and looking forward to the potential positive outcomes of theirvoting. Naij.com has received a great number of messages from Nigerians who urge their comrades to work towards a united and peaceful Nigeria.

However, the tone of some of the opinion pieces we receive is not too optimistic. Mr. Godson Da-Clarke, in his article “Nigerians, Do Not Vote!,”  explains why he thinks voting in 2015 is “useless”.

“Nigeria, our dear ‘Giant of Africa,’ stands on the edge of the precipice. The centenary celebration of the existence of the West African sub-region’s hegemon is, alas, the very point at which the very existence is being called into question. I am one of those who want so much for Nigeria to remain united. But for those who refuse to see the cracks in the wall which portend imminent division, I have only one word: shine your eye!

“May I use this medium to remind the enlightened and inform the ignorant that all the political brouhaha we see this year will be a (mis)calculation with the 2015 voting campaign at the end of it all. The massive deployment of armed forces to elections. The expansion of puny Boko Haram against our mighty military. The mago mago being played with the economy that has led and will still lead to strikes and more strikes. The concessions and promotions suddenly being given to federal and state civil servants. The impeachment river running from South to North like the Niger. The convening of the National Conference at precisely this time. The white elephant projects undertaken by governments. And yes, even the Ebola outbreak ravaging the South and clawing its way up North. All we see and will see in 2014 is geared towards swinging the power pendulum in 2015 voting.

“Let me tell you at this juncture that it’s no use wasting your time and energy voting. It’s an even more worthless risk protecting your votes when your life is no better than a turkey’s in Nigeria. You see, Nigeria does not appreciate your voting, anyway. The surest way to shock the government into the realization that the people are tired of over five decades of increasing mendacity is to let them record a low turnout of voters. Do not think that you’re doing your country any good by voting.  The right to vote was given to you for their sake, not yours. Governments at all levels and with whichever party in power have always failed in Nigeria.

“Let me say it again for emphasis: elections will always favour the elite of the government. Never the plain folk. You think any elected officer will serve you when you have nothing to offer? They serve those whose money sponsored them into those positions. They serve the interests of political godfathers and economic juggernauts. For example, who do you think NNPC will listen more to, between Dangote and you?

“Now you get the picture: you are not on their minds at all after you have “fulfilled your civic duty” of voting. That’s why we keep hearing the same campaign promises of good roads, potable water, security, education, food for all, and all such pipedreams. More serious countries like Ghana and South Africa take these basic necessities of modern life for granted. So why can’t we task the government to give us what is ours by right?

“Listen to me and listen good. Nigeria is on the verge of breaking up, chikena! No matter how these elections of next year turn out, there will be problems that could cause the military to take over under a messianic pretext.

“If Goodluck Ebele Jonathan wins and retains the deified throne at Aso Rock which the Northern Moslems have consecrated unto themselves, he would have defied the lords of the rings. They will leave him restless with pins pricking his buttocks till he either surrenders or does a great deal of ‘cleansing’ (if you know what I mean). At the extreme, he could be assassinated—and you don’t need to be told that the Niger-Delta militants will take up arms again with one aim in mind: secession. More likely, though, GEJ will stay alive, in which case it could be the North calling for a breakup.

“If, on the other hand, GEJ loses, be sure that a civil war is in the offing when the South-South and Southeast feel slighted. They will then want total control of oil money—theirs. The military will be fighting on four fronts. There’s Boko Haram to the North. The creek beasts to the South-South. The Southeast Biafra secessionists who will latch onto the golden opportunity to realize MASSOB objectives. And, perhaps, also riots in the Southwest from people who want an Oduduwa Republic that affords them the sort of development last seen in the days of Awo. That gives us four countries, with the middle belt states realigning as appropriate (for example, Kwara to the Yoruba and Benue to the Igbo).

“The best way to avert this (mis)fortune is to let politicians eat their franchise. The rice and cash they shove into your bosom will be recollected a hundredfold when they get into power, and you’ll be the worse for it. Fellow Nigerians, let us seize this opportunity to finally make a difference and make our votes count. There can be no rigging if there are no people voting, or the votes are astonishingly and incomprehensibly few in number. I’m offering you a way to a smooth, easy revolution—unless you prefer it the other way, which, we pray does not happen.”

Security Agents Arrest Boko Haram Members In Borno

About seven members of the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram were reportedly arrested on Monday at Shaffa town in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno state.

A resident of the town, Mallam Zakariya Shizhawu, who made this known to Vanguard said, the suspects have been terrorizing Shaffa town and its environs.

“Thank God Seven boko haram suspected operatives who have been terrorizing our community were arrested yesterday (Monday) by security agents following a tip off”Shizhawu said.

The issue of insurgency has also become a political tool as our various party leaders have resulted to passing blames on their party instead of addressing it. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a man buying you things, but always remember that if you believe in yourselves and your dreams, you work hard and stay focused, there’s absolutely nothing you can’t buy for yourself. I’m not only buying myself cars that I want, I’m in the process of buying my own house, with my own money.

I made it on my own, in my own way and on my own terms. If anybody ever tells you that the only way you can make it in life is by laying on your back, the person lied to you. You don’t have to do that. You shouldn’t do that. You are strong, you are brave, you have been blessed with a talent, find yourself, believe in yourself, push yourself…and never give up. No money is sweeter than your own money, trust me. You can do it. Yes, you! You can do it. Just be patient, pay attention and work your butt off.

It’s not easy trust me…if you think I had success overnight, you thought wrong. November this year will make it eight years that I’ve been blogging. Every single day! Before then I was a model, I was a model manager, I was an events planner, I was a columnist, I wrote a book, then I became a blogger. I put my hands in so many things because I was determined to make it in life. Finally one paid off – blogging.

I’m not better than you, if I can make it, so can you! Just never think the only option you have is men. YOU are an option and once you go to God and tell Him what you want to do and He sees that you are serious, He will lead you, He will guide you and He will make all your dreams come true.

Think about it, the people who are successful in life don’t have two heads. Why can’t you be one of them? You really can be. It’s up to you.

Finally, I will soon start my ‘I Will Rather Be Self Made’ campaign where I will mentor young girls and also help some of you start your own small scale businesses by financing it…so look out for that. I will make an announcement on this soon.

Police to deploy sniffer dogs to help locate trapped victims at Synagogue building collapse site

 



 

 

 



 

The Nigeria police say they will be sending sniffer dogs to the collapsed Synagogue building site to help search for victims who are believed to still be trapped under the rubble. As of today, the death toll has risen to 45 with 130 survivors.
