Man Gets 6 Months Imprisonment Over 46 Eggs
A resident of Mabushi in Abuja, Musa Abdullahi, has been asked to spend the next six months in prison for stealing 46 pieces of eggs.
This is according to a sentence delivered on Friday, 27 September, 2014 by Senior Magistrate Grace Adebayo-Eisapeat at the Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
The magistrate handed down the judgment after the convict had pleaded guilty to committing the crime, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
It was gathered that Adebayo-Eisape, who told the convict that the judgment was to serve as a lesson to others who might want to commit the same crime, also gave Abdullahi an option of N30, 000 fine.
The accused, a sales representative to one Salisu Datti of Wuse Market, Abuja was said to have been carrying out this crime for a long time before he was caught on 21 September.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Umar Ango, told the court that the case was reported at Wuse Police Station by one Paul Ezeugwu, one of the security guard in Wuse Market.
According to Ango, the convict confessed at the police station that he has been committing this crime for a long time.
The value for the 46 pieces of eggs is N1, 380, Ango informed.
He also stated that the offence committed by Abdullahi contradicts Section 287 of the Penal Code.

Church Fire Consumes Pastor's Wife, 4 Children
A pastor, John Kayode lost his wife and four children to a midnight inferno which engulfed a mission and some sections of a church building of Christ Apostolic Church, CAC in Otumara, Warri in Delta.
The incident which happened yesterday is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, Daily Sun reports.
The cleric was said to have traveled for a pastors’ conference in Osun State when the incident happened.
Narrating what happened, a neighbor named Bright December said there was an electrical fault in the area and at about 11pm, some men went round, trying to trace the root of the problem. After going round for about three times, they gave up as they could not find the cause of the problem.

He said: “At about midnight to 12:30am, I heard the woman screaming for help, so we came out. When I got there, I saw the last daughter of the pastor, standing very close to the louvres, banging on them. There was no way I could help, I saw one rubber out there with which I started scooping water to put out the fire. Later on I saw the woman (pastor’s wife), struggling with the door, like a middle wooden door, she was shouting for help while she was trying to open it. The three other children could not be seen struggling at all, it was like they had been choked with the smoke in the house because where they slept was where we found them.”
Bright explained that rescue efforts by those who came early enough were fruitless because of the iron protectors on the doors and windows.
An eyewitness and church member, Mrs Stella Osama, said the remains of the pastor’s wife and four children were burnt beyond recognition.

It was gathered by Nigerian Tribune that fire fighters and members of the Nigeria Police could only access the scene at 2.45 a.m, after the five had given up the ghost.

12 Mi-35 Helicopters To Be Delivered To Nigeria From Belarus
Despite loud session in the Senate on September 25, 2014, Thursday, a loan for the Presidency in the amount of USD1,000,000,000 (over N163bn) has been approved. At the same time, the information on priority spendings have been leaked.
According to TheNation, it all started with explanations by the Senate Joint Committee on Finance and Local and Foreign Debt. Speaking on its behalf, Senator Ahmed Makarfi explained that the huge “loan” is not a cash loan. It will be a supply of military hardware to be paid over seven years. At the same time, not every country (Supplier) would agree to such terms.
The second aspect of this loan is that the whole amount will not be released at one moment. The procurements will start only in accordance with needs assessment, by analysing what is really in demand with the defence and security structures of Nigeria.
The senators agreed that modern helicopters are among the most crucial units subject to purchase. The nature of anti- Boko Haram operations, environment, terrain and other conditions require powerful flying machines. Russian-made Mi-35 helicopters are considered as the suitable model.

The Nigerian Army has again recorded another resounding victory over Boko Haram insurgents during another attempt to capture Maiduguri.

Sahara Reporters made it known that the Troops who were from the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri made members of the insurgent to hands down during a showdown in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, yesterday.

Reports have it that the soldiers stationed in Konduga yesterday repelled an attack by Boko Haram fighters who tried once again to capture the town as a gateway to Maiduguri.
It is worthy to note that the Nigerian troops have in recent times recorded a remarkable upper hand against the Boko Haram insurgents as the force has been having a remarkable victory on the terror group who have launched no fewer than four attacks on Konduga.
Hundreds of insurgent fighters have died in the battles and Nigerian soldiers have also seized vehicles and armored personnel carriers from the terrorist group. The insurgent group had captured most of the weaponry and hardware in previous battles with ill-motivated and ill-equipped Nigerian security forces.

NLC Warns FG Over Synagogue Building Collapse
Following the number of casualties and the controversies trailing the collapse of building at the Synagogue Church Of All Nations, SCOAN, situated in Ikotun area of Lagos, western Nigeria, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has called on the Federal Government to ensure that a thorough and transparent probe is conducted on the tragic incident.
It would be recalled that no fewer than 115 people have so far been confirmed to have died from the building collapse that happened on 12 September, 2014.
According to a statement signed by NLC’s Head of Information, Comrade Benson Upah, and made public on Friday, 27 September, 2014, the labour body stated that any investigation less than thorough is capable of compromising Nigeria’s image.

The NLC also lamented that the painful tragedy is familiar, avoidable and is an occurrence which Nigeria can ill afford.

It added: “We at the Nigeria Labour Congress also wish to urge the government to empower the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in order to improve their response capacity.
“We commiserate with the families of the victims, majority of whom are our South African brothers and sisters.”

It would be recalled that two South Africans, Thanduxolo Doro and Mpho Molebatsi, who lost relatives in the Synagogue building collapse had threatened to sue the owner of the church, Prophet T.B Joshua.
According to BBC report, the two men, who both lost sisters in the collapse, are calling on more families to come together in bringing a case against the clergyman.
Meanwhile, the Lagos state government has unveiled a Coroner to investigate the cause of the six storey building collapse.

Ni Min is suffering from a rare condition that turns her muscles to solid bone - fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP). The genetic mutation is also known as Stone Man Syndrome and, unfortunately, there is still no cure for it. Although there are less than six hundred cases of it across the globe, those suffering from it eventually die.

Boko Haram kills Living Faith Church Pastor, Teacher, 17 others in Borno state
Pastor Eliud Gwamna Mshelizza of the Living Faith Church, a teacher with the Government Girls Secondary School Shaffa alongside 17 others were killed in separate attacks on Wednesday September 24th and Thursday September 25th after Boko Haram members launched an attack on Shaffa and Shindiffu villages of Hawul LGA in Borno State.
The sect men were said to have arrived Shaffa at about 8pm on Wednesday September 24th and after ravaging the village, proceeded to Shindiffu village on Thursday September 25th. They burnt down about 10 churches including E.Y.N No:I, E.Y.N No: II and III in both villages. Many of the sect members were however killed by Nigerian troops who came in from Adamawa and Biu during an ambush as the Boko Haram men were leaving the villages after the attack.

A source at the Presidency who confirmed the Ministers impending resignation said;
"Their resignation will come very soon. You know the President will have to fill the vacancies that will be created before the general elections in February 2015. You also know that the Senate must approve nominees. It is therefore important that the list be forwarded to the senators before everybody will be engrossed in election matters in their various constituencies,” the source said.

Fortunately he found and rescued alive seven hours later…
“Patience on September 14th 2014 did bury her one-day-old baby boy in a shallow grave. The baby was rescued alive” the commissioner said
He also said the woman has been seriously ill since she was arrested and was receiving treatment.

The teenage Chibok girl found dumped near a police station in the Mubi area of Adamawa state is 4 months pregnant and she is seriously suffering from psychological trauma.
“She is actually one of our daughters abducted from Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok. She was found in Mubi where her abductors dumped her and was later taken to Yola, the girl is four months pregnant.”
Chairman of Chibok Community in Abuja, Tsambido Hosea Abana told Daily Trust on Thursday.
A police source confirmed that the abducted girl was dumped there by insurgents. The girl has been moved to Adamawa State Police Headquarters in Yola.
Mr Abana said the girl is suffering from trauma and there are signs of physical abuses on her body, saying he believed the insurgents subjected their captives to horrible physical and s*xual abuses.
Sources at the Police Clinic in Yola confirmed that she was on admission at the clinic where she had received treatment but was taken to the Police headquarters in the morning.
A source said the girl might have been referred to a bigger hospital for advanced medical attention.

Group Gives Fashola 7-day ultimatum To Arrest TB Joshua
A Human rights group has given Lagos state governor, Governor Babatunde Fashola seven days to arrest the founder of The Synagogue Church of All Nations, Temitope Joshua.

The group also accused the administration of delaying the probe based on “the mantra of ‘Touch not my Anointed.’”
“We are Vote for Service Initiative. We like to remind your good office that, it was in this state your attorney general and commissioner for justice prosecuted and convicted Rev. King to death by hanging for (killing) one of his devotees with ignited fire.

It is also the same attorney general office that prosecuted recently Mr. Arowolo to death by hanging for killing his wife with knife and cudgel, how much more the man that (killed) over 115 souls through criminal negligence and brazen impunity,” the group said.
The later demanded that Fashola apologizes to Lagosians for the late implementation of the the Physical Planning Law of Lagos State, and as well, compensate the victims.

“Failure to which we will be left with no other option than to approach the competent court of jurisdiction for an order of mandamus for your good office to implement the law you signed in 2010 without delay,” the letter added.
A five storey building belonging to the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Ikotun Lagos had collapsed in September 12 as three extra floors were being added on the original two-storey structure.

South African Pastor Makes Church Members Drink Fuel
Controversial South African Pastor Daniel Lesego of the Rabboni Centre who once made his church members eat grass is in the news again.
This time, he reportedly asked his congregants to drink petrol.
A video circulating online shows the man of God praying for a bottle which according to him contained petrol, to be turned to pineapple juice.
He then offered it to his congregants to drink. Some of them were exclaiming how ‘sweet’ and ‘nice’ it tastes, some said it tasted like the blood while some others begged for more.
The video shows the pastor demonstrating his “miraculous” power in front of the congregation, with spectators shouting hallelujah.

22 Arrested for Killing Anti-Ebola Campaigners in Guinea
Conakry (Xinhua/NAN) – Guinea’s Justice Minister Cheick Sacko said 22 suspects had been arrested in connection with last week’s killing of eight government officials.
The eight officials were involved in sensitization of the public against Ebola Virus Disease in the southeast region of Wome.
“The suspected perpetrators of the assassinations will be charged before a special sitting of the Conakry Court of Appeal,” the minister said on Wednesday in Conakry.
He said that those arrested included Labile Haba, a 30-year-old hawker, who was believed to be the head of the operation.
Sacko said other suspects include two residents of Wome who had tried to flee to Cote d’Ivoire, as well as their two colleagues arrested in the town of Gueckedou in Guinea’s southern region.
The justice minister said the suspects, who were arrested a day after the killing of the eight officials, had been questioned by investigators.
